AME AME1300 n General Description The AME1300 combines a Low Dropout Regulator and a Microprocessor Reset Monitor in a space-saving MSOP8 package. Total supply current is 50A (typical), 20 to 60 times lower than in bipolar regulators . The AME1300 has an extremely precise output with a typical accuracy of 1.5%. Other key features include ultra low noise operation, very low dropout voltage and internal feed-forward compensation for fast response to step changes in load. The AME1300 incorporates both over-temperature and over-current protection. When the shutdown control EN is low, the regulator output voltage falls to zero, RESETB output remains valid and supply current is reduced to 10A(typical). The AME1300 is stable with an output capacitor of only 2.2F and has a minimum output current of 300 mA. An active low RESET is asserted when the detected voltage (V DET) falls below the reset voltage threshold. The reset output remains low for 300msec(typical) after VDET rises above reset threshold. Unlike bipolar regulators, the AME1300 supply current does not increase with load current. In addition,VOUT remains stable and within regulation at very low load currents(an important consideration in RTC and CMOS RAM battery backup applications) as well as with any type of capacitor (see below). AME1300 pin functions are detailed below: 300mA CMOS LDO with RESET Function RESETB RESETB VDET VDET C1 2.2F OUT IN C1 1F Battery GND 1300 + NC BYP EN CBypass EN Control (Option) (from Power 470pF Control Logic) n Pin Description Pin Number 1 2 3 4 Pin Name RESETB OUT GND BYP Pin Description RESETB output remains low while VDET is below the reset voltage threshold, and for 300msec VDET rises above reset theshold. Regulated Voltage Output. Ground Terminal. Reference Bypass Input. Connecting a 1000pF to this input further reduces output noise. Shutdown Control Input. The regulator is fully enabled when a logic high is applied to this input. The regulator enters shutdown when a logic low is applied to this input. During shutdown, regulator output voltage falls to zero, RESETB output remains valid and supply current is reduced to 10A (typ.) No connect. Power Supply Input. Detected input Voltage. VDET and VOUT can be connected together. 5 EN 6 7 8 NC IN VDET Rev.C.02 7 AME AME1300 n Enable When actively pulled low, the PMOS pass transistor shuts off, and all internal circuits are powered down. In this state, the quiescent current is less than 10A. This pin behaves much like an electronic switch. RESETB Output The RESETB output is driven active low within 40sec of VDET falling through the reset threshold.RESETB is maintained active for a minimum of 140msec after VDET rises above the reset threshold. The AME1300 has an active-low RESETB output. The output of the AME1300 is guaranteed vaild down to V DET = 1V and is optimized to reject fast transient glitches on the VDET line. 300mA CMOS LDO with RESET Function n External Capacitors The AME1300 is stable with an output capacitor to ground of 2.2F or greater. Ceramic capacitors have the lowest ESR, and will offer the best AC performance. Conversely, Aluminum Electrolytic capacitors exhibit the highest ESR, resulting in the poorest AC response. Unfortunately, large value ceramic capacitors are comparatively expensive. One option is to parallel a 0.1F ceramic capacitor with a 10F Aluminum Electrolytic. The benefit is low ESR, high capacitance, and low overall cost. A second capacitor is recommended between the input and ground to stabilize Vin. The input capacitor should be at least 0.1F to have a beneficial effect. A third capacitor can be connected between the BYPASS pin and GND. This capacitor can be a low cost Polyester Film variety between the value of 0.001~0.01F. A larger capacitor improves the AC ripple rejection,but also makes the output come slowly. This" Soft" turn-on is desirable in some applications to limit turn-on surges. All capacitors should be placed in close proximity to the pins. A " Quiet" ground termination is desirable.
