chapter 3 board overview the 13193evk contains two different boards. 1. 13192-evb 2. 13192-sard these boards include the following on-board com ponents except where noted otherwise: ? mc13192 2.4ghz transceiver ? mc9s08gt60 micro controller unit (mcu) ? mma6261q accelerometer (13192-sard only) ? mma1260d accelerometer (13192-sard only) 3.1 common board components 3.1.1 mc9s08gt60 mcu the mc9s08gt60 mcu is contained on both the 13192-sard and 13 192-evb. the mc9s08gt60 mcu is a m e mber of freescale?s 8 bit, low co st, low power f a m ily of hcs08 mcus. it has 60kb of em bedded fl ash and 4kb of ram. for m o re inform ation, re fer to the mc9s08gb60 data sheet, at www. freescale.com/m cu . 3.1.2 mc13192 rf data modem the mc13192 is contained on both the 13192-sard and 13 192-evb. the mc13192 is an 802.15.4 compliant, zig b ee-ready transceiv e r. it has a four-wire spi interface to co nnect to a variety of microcontrollers, crea ting a low power, low cost so luti on for a range of applications. for m o re inform ation on the mc13912, see the mc13192ds/ d data sheet at www. freescale.com / zigbee . 3.1.3 mma1260d and mma6261q acceleration sensors the mma6261q acceleration sensors are contained only on the 13192-s a rd. the mma1260d and the mma6261q acceleration sens ors pro v ide the 131 92-sard with uniqu e applications to dem onstrate wireless sensi ng solutions. for m o re inform ation on the mma1260d and the mma6261q, see the da ta sheets included with the 13193evk cd or visit www. freescale.com / sensors . free scale se micon d u c tor 802.15.4 evk user?s g u id e, rev . 0.0 3-1
3.2 13192-evb description the 13192-evb is an 802.15.4/zigbee evaluation board based on the mc13192, 2.4ghz transceiver and the mc9s08gt60 m c u. the 13 192-evb bo ard provides both serial and usb connectivity to a pc for easy evaluation. it also includes the necessary ci rcuitry to en able th e mbc13900 low noise am plifier (lna) for i m prove d sensitivity and range. it also has an external sma connector for an external antenna connection which allow s easy connectivity to a scope for test and m easurem ent. the 13192-evb contains the follo wing interfaces ? 1.1 usb por t ? rs232 serial connection ? 4 push buttons (s1, s2, s3, s4) ? 1 reset button (reset) ? 4 leds, (led1, led2, led3, led4) ? one power switch (s106) ? printed f antenna (refer to an2731/d for m o re infor m ation) ? optional mbc13900 lna (disabled by default, visit www.freescale.com /rf for mor e inf o rm ation) ? sma rf co nnector (disabled by def a ult) ? background debug module (bdm) connection (allo ws flash programm i ng and in-circuit debug via th e includ ed usb multilin k cable). s ee usbmultechsum/d document included in the kit f o r more details). ? power connector (5-9 v o lts) ? 10-pin head er strip for access to specific mcu and rf pins 3-2 802.15.4 ev k us er?s gui d e, rev 0.0 fr ees cal e semi con d u c t o r

chapter 4 software installation this chapter describes how to install the software contained on the 13193evk cd. before connecting the hardware to the pc, the software on the 13193evk cd must to be installed on a pc. this installs th e te st tool application, object and source code , sam p le applications, and docum entation. to insta ll th e sof t ware, perf orm the f o llowing steps. 1. insert the 13193evk cd into your cd-rom dr ive. 2. if the program does not run autom a tically, run cdbrowser.exe fro m the autorun directory. 3. select install/uninstall from the m e nu options. the following window appears. figure 5 evaluation kit cd brow ser main window free scale se micon d u c tor 802.15.4 evk user?s g u id e, rev . 0.0 4-1

chapter 5 demonstration applications the 13192-evb and 13 192-sard boards ship w ith several pre-loaded dem onstration applic ation s . this chapte r descr i bes h o w to run th e includ ed a pplica tions a s well as loa d ing and running additional applications included in the 13193evk. this section uses the test tool?s em bedded boot loader application to flash new firmware into the 13192-sard and 13192-evb. the bootloader provide s an alternative m e thod to fl ash your applic ation s with the ne e d f o r a bdm cable . to flash the boards via the supplied bdm programm e r and code warrior, see the usbm ul tilink hc s08/hcs12 technical summ ary user manual and the code w a rrior? developm e n t studio for 68hc08 qu ick start guide . flashing the board with the bdm programm e r ov er writes all code residing in the em bedded flash including the em be dded bootloader code. in order to u s e the em bedded bootloa d er utility to flash the board, you must reload the em bedd ed bootloader code via the bdm. see the em bedded bootloader reference manual (802154emrm/d) for m o re details. note ensure that you have already installed the software from the 13193evk cd. 5.1 accelerometer demonstra tion application (smac) the accelerom eter demonstrati on is designed to run with 131 92-sard and is pre-flashed on the board. t h e accelero m eter de m o nstration ap plication uses two 13192-sard boards that transm it x, y, and z-axis accelerom e ter d a ta fro m 13192-sard board one to 1319 2-sard board two. the 13192-sard boar d two is connected to a pc via a serial port. the pc runs a gui interface that d i splays the acceleration se nso r data on the pc screen. the accelerom eter de m onstration application is optim ized for low power consumption, not range evaluation. the output power on the accelerom e ter de m onstrati on application is optim ized for low power consum ption and set below the nom i n al 0dbm le vel. to tes t the effective range of the boards, use the ran g e dem o plus applicatio n, as describ e d later in th is chap ter. 5.1.1 board setup overview to setup both boards for operation, (transm it a nd receive) perform the steps shown in this section. note this section is based on the 13192-sard board with the factory loaded accelerom eter d e m onstration. if you have re-flashed the 13192-sard board with anoth e r application, you will n eed to reload the accelerom eter application. see section 5.8 fo r m o re inf o rm ation. 5.1.2 board one setup (transmit) 1. connect a 9 v battery o r the 9v power suppl y and set switch s105 to the ?on? positio n. 2. while holding down button s101, press and release the reset button s106 then release s101. led d104 s hould be blinking. board one is now in transm it m ode. 5.1.3 board two setup (receive) 1. connect the other 13192-sard board to a pc?s serial port using a db9 male/fem ale serial cable includ ed in the k it. 2. connect a 9 v battery o r the 9v power suppl y and set switch s105 to the ?on? positio n. 3. press the reset button s 106. board two is now in receive m ode. 5.1.4 verify ing operation 1. verify that the boards are communicating by en suring that l e d d103 on the receive board (board two) is blinking. if it is not, press the reset butt on s 106 on board two again. 5.4 protocol test client ( ptc) demonstration application the 13192-evb co m e s pre-loaded with the pt c de m onstration application. the p t c dem onstration application is an in teractive app l i cation for the test tool environm ent. the ptc de m onstration application perfor m s various functions such as reading and writing m e mory and sending and receiving data via the r f . th e 13192-evb and 13192-sard m u st be running the ptc client to run the test tool applications. if the 13192-evb has been flashed with another app lication, the board needs to be flashed with the ptc applica tion. to verif y if the ptc a pplication is on the board, power on the board and ensure th at all four leds are on. if all four leds are on, th en th e ptc applica tion is loaded and running. see section 5. 8 for infor m ation on how to flash th e board with the ptc applica tion. see section 5.4 for inform ation about specific ut ilities for the pt c application. 5.5 switch demons tration the switch de m onstration is an application th at runs on top of the 802.15.4 mac layer and provides event driven command and response. its purpose is to s how how to use the mac layer prim itives. source code is provid e d on the 1319 3evk cd. see the switch de m onstration application note (an2773/d) for m o re inform ation. 5.6 wireless uart/ c able replacement the w i reles s uart/cable replacem ent applicati on transm its a ll ch arac ters received on the uart interface over th e air interf ace to the re mote unit. t h e uart runs at 19200 baud with no hardware handshake, no parity, an d 8 bit data. the application can be u s ed as a s i mple cab le replacem ent. note the application collects up to 80 ch aracters b e fore one air p acket is tr ansm itte d. this ensu res tha t the air interf ac e is not f i lle d with "sm a ll pack ets". if the tim e between two characters is m o re than 80m s , a tim eout occurs and the packet is transm itted . som e applications/p rotocols that run on top of the uart m a y n o t function properly due to the laten c y intro duced by the air interf a ce and the a pplica tion. also, the applica tion tra n sm its the status of switch 4 (s4) to the rem o te unit as displayed on led4.
